These guidelines will be kept in place as approved by the board of directors. The Judges will vote on and provide the winning nominee(s) for each award.
The Awards Committee will be made up of the following members:
· Chairperson – this individual will not be a voting judge but must be on the CBC board of directors
· Voting Judges will be comprised of 3 pilots and 2 crew members and 1 alternate judge; either pilot or crew person. These individuals will not be CBC board members.
Each nomination will be handled in the following manner:
· All nomination letters are to be received in the CBC PO Box no later than December 1st and will be addressed to the appropriate award (COTY, Spirit of Ballooning) c/o CBC PO Box 151276, Lakewood, Co 80215
· The chairperson will make copies of all letters and sanitize the copies. (All letters will be sanitized for identifying information of the nominee).
Note: The original non-sanitized letters will not be disclosed and will be kept by the Chairperson ONLY until such time the board has been made aware of the winners and the winning nominations are to be printed in the newsletter following the month the awards are given.
· Chairperson will distribute the “sanitized” letters to the judges by the second Tuesday of December.
· The awards committee will meet during the second week of each year to nominate a recipient for each award and identify the winning nominee(s) to the Board of Directors by the third Tuesday of December in order to give the club a month to procure the individual awards.
The following represents the 2011 board approved general guidelines for the Colorado Balloon Club Awards as stated below:
Crew of the Year Award (COTY)
· Nominations will be sent in on a standardized form that will be available on the website and sent to the CBC PO Box.
· A one-time non-refundable $25.00 fee is to accompany the nomination(s) to offset award costs to winning crew
· Nominee(s) must have participated in some form of crew strategic competition, crew games, CPR class, basic first aid class, BFA approved safety seminar and/or have attended/participated in a crew achievement program or crew training program, i.e. ground school, FAAST Team program, BFA Crew Achievement Program, or CBC sanctioned crew training event, etc.
· Nominee(s) must have done some sort of public or community service in the spirit of ballooning
· Unlimited number of crew can be nominated per form.
· Nominee(s) do not have to be a CBC member
· Person submitting the nominations must be a CBC member
· It will be presented at the annual CBC General meeting or at a place and time determined by the Board of Directors.
· Recipients must be a minimum of 14 years old.
Colorado Balloon Club Spirit of Ballooning Award
(formerly the Don Ida Spirit of Ballooning Award)
· This award is to honor and recognize a person who has made a significant contribution to the Colorado Balloon Club and has also made a significant contribution to the sport of ballooning and/or who has attained outstanding personal achievement that has benefited the sport of ballooning.
· Nominations for this award must be sent by formal letter explaining why this nominee deserves this award.
· The nominee must be a CBC member
· Nominee must have performed a public or community service in the spirit of ballooning
· This award can be given on an annual basis, or not, and in special circumstances more than one award may be given.
· It will be presented at the annual CBC General meeting or at a place and time determined by the Board of Directors.
· Winning nominee(s) will have an engraved plaque mounted on the traveling balloon trophy and winning nominees will receive an engraved plaque to keep. The traveling balloon trophy will be held by the winner and returned to the board of directors by December, 31 of that respective year.
Carol Rymer Davis Special Recognition Award
· This award is to honor and recognize a person, pilot, crew or company who has made a significant contribution to the sport of ballooning, and/or who has attained outstanding personal achievement that has benefited the sport of ballooning, and/or is recognized for lifetime service and/or service to the sport of ballooning.
· The recipient does not have to be a CBC member
· The award can be given on an annual basis, or not, and in special circumstances more than one award may be given.
· It will be presented at the annual CBC General meeting or at a place and time determined by the Board of Directors.
